Physical Specs and Compatibility
The Apple Display Card 24AC is a 7" NuBus card compatible with both 680x0- and PowerPC-based Macs. With ROM version 1.0, the card is only compatible with System versions from 7.1 up to (and including) 7.5.2; with ROM version 1.1, the card is compatible with Mac OS versions from 7.1 up to 8.6. Mac OS 9 compatibility for this card has not been verified.
Acceleration/Resolution/Color Support
The 24AC provides standard QuickDraw acceleration and supports standard Mac resolutions from 640 x 480 to 1152 x 870 in 24-bit color. It also supports 640 x 870, the resolution of the Portrait Display. Apple TIL article #14387 describes technical specs and pinouts.
- 640 x 480 @ 67Hz
- 640 x 480 @ 60Hz
- 800 x 600 @ 60Hz
- 832 x 624 @75Hz
- 1024 x 768 @ 60Hz or 75Hz
- 1152 x 870 @ 75Hz
- 640 x 870 @ 75Hz
- Maximum Bit Depth: 24-bit/16.7 million colors (all resolutions)
Other Notes
This is the same card (or very nearly the same card) as the Radius PrecisionColor Pro 24AC. The 24AC is generally very hard to find and, in my opinion, overpriced relative to its Radius sibling, especially considering the Radius supports more resolutions and doesn't have the ROM issues of the 24AC. eBay only very rarely has the 24AC, and they usually go for over $100 when they appear.
