Low End Mac
Mac to the Future

The Mac has always been my computer. Ever since my sister brought home her Performa 200 for college, I've been a full blown Mac user. Now, I'm in college myself and haven't varied a bit. Although this is Low End Mac, I write articles on current and future topics, because, as we all know, today's high end is tomorrow's low end. A few years from now, the G3 will take its place with the 680x0's and PowerPC 60x's. It's important to keep an eye on the future so know how the Mac is changing - and these days it's changing a lot.

I grew up with the Mac, and I intend to grow old with the Mac. I'm currently 18 years old and attending college at Texas A&M University. My Mac arsenal currently includes my sisters Performa 200 (which she gave up long ago), a non-working Performa 400 (my first computer), a beige desktop Power Mac G3, a PowerBook 540c I got from a Yahoo auction, an iBook SE, and an iMac DV+. Also, I recently received a 512K Macintosh, or Fat Mac, from a friend's dad (a Mac using preacher) who bought it brand new in 1984. We turned it on, heard the Macintosh chime - and then nothing else happened. Oh well. I plan to "upgrade" it to a Macquarium as soon as I get some time.

My email address is very descriptive, keltaylor (at) lowendmac (dot) com, so send me an email if you have any questions or comments.

Welcome

Low End Mac is pleased to welcome Kel Taylor and his Mac to the Future column. Kel brings a broad perspective as someone who cut his teeth on Macs in the b&w compact Mac era and is ready to leap into the world of OS X later this year.
