Configurable. That's the word the best describes Apple's most powerful computer ever - made even more powerful with the current version, which uses quad-core Intel Xeon CPUs in all configurations. You can buy the 2008 Mac Pro with a single 2.8 GHz quad-core CPU or two 2.8, 3.0, or 3.2 GHz CPUs. Base memory is now 2 GB (you can go as high as 32 GB), a 320 GB hard drive is standard, the default video card is a Radeon HD 2600 XT with 256 MB of RAM, and Bluetooth is now included rather than an extra cost option. New is an SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) interface, which allows use of ultrafast and expensive 15,000 rpm hard drives.

You can still find the original Mac Pro with two dual-core 2.0 GHz, 2.66 GHz, or 3.0 GHz Intel Xeon ("Woodcrest") CPUs or two 3.0 GHz quad-core CPUs, 1-16 GB of RAM, 1-4 video cards, three different hard drive sizes and up to four hard drives, and more. About the only "standard feature" found on other Macs but missing from the older Mac Pro is Bluetooth 2.0. Other options include AirPort Extreme, a second SuperDrive, a modem, and a wireless Mighty Mouse/keyboard combo.

Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" is supported on all Intel-based Macs and ships with the 2008 Mac Pro.

All Mac Pro models are now listed as 4-core or 8-core models, and we distinguish the 2007 3.0 GHz 8-core model from the 2008 version by including the year.
